My Story

I am a multilingual first-generation African immigrant whose journey in healthcare began shortly after my mother's cancer diagnosis. When she passed midway through my nursing education, I navigated the complexities of grief for the first time. Despite this, I persevered, earning my Associate Degree in Nursing from Inver Hills Community College, my B.S. in Nursing from the College of St. Scholastica, and ultimately my DNP from Winona State University. My professional path has been diverse, encompassing roles in primary care, nursing homes, home healthcare, and various hospital units, including medical-surgical, orthopedic, respiratory, and neurosurgery.

Alongside my clinical practice, I've encountered my own mental health challenges, including grief and depression following my mother's passing, and moments of anxiety and burnout during my educational and professional pursuits.

My professional and personal experiences have profoundly shaped my holistic approach to patient care. I understand firsthand the importance of empathy, compassion, and culturally sensitive care in supporting individuals through their health journeys.

Outside of work, I prioritize family time, engage in ongoing learning with my children, prioritize physical activity, and indulge in the occasional movie or show.

I am dedicated to leveraging my unique background and experiences to advocate for and provide compassionate, patient-centered care to those I serve.

My Philosophy

I Believe...

  • That health is not merely the absence of symptoms, but a state of well being, a balance between mind, body, soul, and spirit.
  • Prevention and health promotion is the cornerstone to wellness.
  • Education is empowerment.
  • Knowledge provides us with tools necessary to be active participants in our life and health care, and to make informed decisions.
  • In the importance of cultural diversity, and believe being culturally aware and sensitive is necessary to create a safe and inclusive space where everyone feel heard, understood, respected, and valued.
  • Respect and open communication are a two way channel between two parties, which facilitates a collaborative partnership.
  • In prescribing as much as necessary, but as little as possible.
  • In having a healthy connection with someone or something.
  • In being true to who you are.
